3. What standard accessories come with the Altman Lighting units?
Due to the large nature of our product line it is necessary to group products into categories (i.e. Fresnels, Ellipsoidals, and so on). Each category will have a unique series of accessories that are provided with each unit and a list of optional accessories. By reviewing our product data sheets you'll notice on the rear side of each page is an outlined section named "ACCESSORIES Supplied with Luminaire" and a section named "ADDITIONAL ACCESSORIES" as a quick reference guide. All current accessories for parent unit will be listed in these sections.

4. How can I determine the most common (or recommended) lamp for a fixture?
Please refer to the rear side of each page of our data sheets. You'll notice a section named "LAMP DATA". Highlighted in this section is the optimum lamp used for the photometric data provided on the sheet. The additional lamps listed are the ones most commonly used. Additional lamps may be available upon request.

Alternatively, you may view the Lamp Reference Table which lists common lamps and the Altman products that they are used in.

5. What is a good rule of thumb when determining what followspot I need?
A good rule of thumb is to first determine your throw distance requirements. Throw Distance is "The effective distance between the luminaire's exit aperture and the area or subject to be illuminated". Once this distance is determined you will need to review the reverse section of each Followspot data sheet for the unit which will achieve a minimum footcandle reading of 100fc. Once this is determined, the next decision is based on the beam diameter. An acceptable minimum of 7'-9' beam diameter at your predetermined throw distance will suffice. The final decision comes down to the Followspot's features and user preference. Don't be afraid to ask questions or even demo a product.

Hybrid Pars such as the Altman Star*Par are not new to our market. Altman has been manufacturing Star*Par style product for over 15 years. What makes our unit stand alone is its proven performance. 10. What advantage does Altman TV/Film Fresnels offer over the competition?
The Altman TV & Film Fresnels are made of rugged, lightweight die-cast and extruded aluminum. Our new "F/S EZ Glide System" is the smoothest in the industry for easy focusing control; through the aid of Teflon bushings driven by a worm gear. Our high quality Schott lens, polarized socket, and etched metallic and black epoxy sandtex finish not only make our fresnels aesthetically pleasing, but are also one of the most rugged and high quality units on the market today.

11. What are the Pros & Cons of CDM vs. Quartz?
This is perhaps one of our most commonly asked questions. Ceramic Metal Halide, better known as CDM or CMH is a high output, low wattage lamp source which utilizes an electronic ballast. Depending on the type of unit in question a 150-watt CDM product may equal or exceed the output of 750-1000 watt quartz unit. Lower wattage high light output is the key to CDM. Due to a high color rendering (CRI) of 85+, CDM products make fantastic themed architectural products. In addition, the CDM product has a lamp life of 6,000-12,000 hours where Quartz has between 300-4000 hours. Though quartz lamps may use more energy and burn hotter, they do have some key advantages. Quartz has the ability to dim from 0-100%; CDM does not. Quartz products do not require the use of a ballast therefore they tend to be almost half the price of their CDM counterparts. Although lamp life is shorter, the replacement lamp cost is also less. We at Altman are pleased to be able to offer both CDM and quartz options, along with a Quartz to CDM retrofit kit.

12. Can I use the Altman Star*Par outdoors?
The Star*Par was designed for interior applications. However, due to the popularity of the Star*Par we have engineered a new product which features its complete optic system in an outdoor enclosure. The new Outdoor-600 utilizing our tried and true Outdoor Par aluminum die cast components along with five interchangeable lenses (VNSP, NSP, MFL, WFL, VWFL).

15. Is it possible to retrofit Quartz with CDM lamps? Can I retrofit other manufacturers?
Altman has developed a series of retrofit kits to achieve this very task. In many applications such as Malls, Restaurants, and Hotel Lobbies, it is not necessary to dim the light output. Short Quartz lamp life makes operating and maintenance costs unbearable. Now with our CDM Retrofit Kits you can change to a high output low wattage lamp source that reaches 12,000 hr. lamp life. This simple kit can be installed in as little as two minutes. The fixture does not need to be removed and retrofit can be accomplished with a minimal amount of tools. As an added bonus, Altman has also developed CDM Retrofit Kits for other manufacturers.

16. What are a U.L. Listing and CE Certification? Do Altman products carry them?
Nearly all Altman Lighting products (99%) carry a UL and cUL listing. Click here for product listings status page. UL refers to Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) or (cUL for Canada) an independent, not-for-profit product safety testing and certification organization. Each year, more than 17 billion UL Marks are applied to products worldwide. UL is one of the most recognized, reputable conformity assessment providers in the world. Today, their services extend to helping companies achieve global acceptance for their products, whether it is an electrical device, a programmable system or a company's quality process. Comparative listings are ETL and cETL.

Additionally, the majority of Altman products carry CE Certification. CE stands for Conformite Europenne, which, translated literally, means "European Conformity". The CE Marking indicates that the product complies with all European requirements and conformity assessment procedures that apply to it. The requirements have been harmonized throughout the member states of the European Economic Area. This means that if a product complies with the CE requirements, it can be freely traded in each of these member states."
